Delivery Ramps Up During Super Bowl
A News12 Report
AUGUSTA, GA. - Football players weren't the only
ones running around today. Pizza delivery places all over the
country were fielding orders right up until the last touchdown. Some
companies estimate that their delivery drivers traveled 4 million
miles today.
News 12's Lynnsey Gardner followed one pizza place
on what they say is the busiest pizza day of the year. It's
debatable, but plenty of people will say it doesn't get more
American than a day of football and pizza.
Lots of people around the CSRA chose to spend super
Sunday exactly that way. Papa John's started early, making
preparations at 8:30 this morning. Delivery drivers like Brad
Himebaugh say one foul move could cost them big. "This is our
busiest day of the year," he said. "We've got to make sure
this is our A day. We don't do it right and we could make a lot of
customers unhappy."
With more than 300 pizza deliveries per store, it's
easy to see how tonight is the Super Bowl for the pizza business.
The fast paced action continues even post-game.
In case you were wondering, pepperoni is the most
popular topping, making up more than one third of all pizza orders.
And you won't believe this, but it's estimated Americans eat more
than 250 million pounds of the meat every year.
We sliced up some more information about pizza: 350
slices of pizza are eaten every second in the United States, which
adds up to more than 100 acres of land per day in pizza. Every year
three billion pizzas are sold, making it a $30 billion business
annually.
